Theater History
Theater of Russian Drama. M. Gorky, founded in 1927 by the decision of the executive committee of the city council of Dnepropetrovsk on the basis of a part of the troupe of the Moscow Maly Theater , which then successfully toured the city.
One of the oldest theaters in Ukraine, which played a significant role in the development of Ukrainian culture in Russian.
At the head of the new theater was the director and actor of the Maly Theater, Vladimir Yermolov-Borozdin . His concept of creativity lives to this day: "With contemporaries, talk about modern and modern language."
The theater opened in the fall of 1927 with the premiere of Konstantin Trenyov ’s play “Lyubov Yarovaya”. In the late 1920s and early 1930s , almost all the plays of Maxim Gorky were staged on the stage of the theater, which in 1934 caused the playwright to be named after the theater.
During the Second World War, the theater team was evacuated to Barnaul , where he spent three years. In June 1944, the theater returned to Dnepropetrovsk .
In 1997, he became the only theater in Ukraine that, in an economically difficult time, ventured on a long and long tour route: Nikolaev , Sevastopol , Simferopol , Yevpatoria .
Every year the theater regularly goes on tour. Spectators of Kiev and other cities of Ukraine , capitals and cities of Estonia , Latvia , Lithuania , Moldova , Poland , Russia , Belarus applauded the performances of Gorky people.
In the framework of the Law on de-communization, the decision to rename the Theater. Gorky was adopted on December 2 at the session of the Dnipropetrovsk regional council [1] [2] . It was the theater team that proposed the name Dnieper Drama and Comedy Theater.
