According to legend, the icon was in the house of Pan Dulsky, who during the Swedish war , when the Swedes walked past Starodub , noticed the appearance on the icon of tears from the eyes of the Mother of God. This happened in 1709 [4] . After that, Pan Dulsky made a vow to put an icon in the temple, which would then be built. He hesitated for a long time with the transfer of the icon, but after appearing in the dream of the Virgin Mary, he gave the image to the poor Balykin parish. This happened on August 4, 1711 .
The icon is painted on canvas glued to the board. The icon belongs to the Affection type, the head of the Virgin is decorated with a diadem, her gaze is directed at the baby Christ lying on her lap. On the silver gilded salary there is an inscription: " 1811, June 24, the countess of Anna Ivanovna Bezborodko redone and grateful ."
The list of the Balykinskaya icon in 1712 was donated to the Holy Vvedensky nunnery in Orel by the Tobolsk Metropolitan John (Maximovitch) . This list is one of the most revered holy sites of the Oryol region [5] .
In 2009, the 300th anniversary of the miraculous icon was celebrated [3] .
