Opening
The stadium was opened in June 1999. The first major event was the international match of the rugby union: on June 26, 1999, the Wales team defeated the South African team in a friendly match with a score of 29:19 in front of 29 thousand fans. With a total capacity of 74,500, the stadium is the third largest arena of the Six Nations Cup after the Stade de France and Twickenham. It is also the second largest stadium in the world with a fully retractable roof.
The attendance record (74,576 people) was recorded on February 9, 2008 during a rugby match between the teams of Wales and Scotland [1] . On June 3, 2017, for the first time in its history, the stadium hosted the UEFA Champions League final between Turin Juventus and Real Madrid.
