Alekhin’s poetry is based on free verse , often subjected to additional metrization and saturated with alliteration . Alekhine's poetry is characterized by a spectacular metaphor . Frequent themes of Alekhin - travel impressions (in a wide range: from the Russian North to Central Asia), unexpected moments of exotic life and foreign culture. Alexey Alekhin is one of the creators and leading masters of modern Russian free verse. His poetics are characterized by a focus on visually perceived verbal images and attention to the details of being combined with the paradoxical thinking.

From the mid-1990s, Alyokhin also regularly speaks with critical articles and essays on contemporary poetry , in which he holds the idea of the deadlock of avant-garde tendencies in Russian verse, reflects on the problems of poetic creativity, in particular the Russian vers libre, and the difficulties of becoming young poets.
