He was acting president of Vanuatu from January 30 to March 2, 1994 , being the speaker of parliament and and. about. the president was needed in the interval between the expiration of the term of office of the previous president and the beginning of the next one. In 2004, in the presidential election, Mazeng was one of 32 candidates; to win, he needed to gain a 2/3 majority of the members of the electoral college, who elect the president of Vanuatu. Elections began on April 8, but this tour, like the next one on April 10, did not lead to any candidate obtaining the required number of votes. In the fourth ballot on April 12, Mazeng defeated government candidate Kalkot Mataskelekele with a result of 41 votes to 16, and was immediately sworn in. He was removed from his presidency on May 11, 2004 by the Supreme Court, which ruled that the elections are invalid because of the rule prohibiting persons being prosecuted to be elected. It was revealed that he was sentenced to probation for corruption and money laundering.
He was a member of the conservative francophone Union of moderate parties . He died in a hospital in the north of Vanuatu several months after he was removed from the presidency. His age and cause of death are not reported.
