Geography and Transportation

 
Battyani Palace in Kormend

Körmend is located about 25 kilometers south of the capital, the Szombathely medie, and at the same distance north-west of Zalaegerszeg . 5 kilometers east of the city lies the border with Austria . Körmend is a major transportation hub, the railways lead from the city in three directions - to the north, to Szombathely , to the south - to Zalalevo and to the west - to Austria. Also, two motorways intersect in Körmend - E66 Szekesfehervarar - Graz and E65 Bratislava - Zagreb . To the south-west of Körmend, the territory of the шrség National Park begins.

Attractions

The main attraction of the city is the palace of the powerful aristocratic Battyani family. The famous doctor Laszlo Battyani-Strattmann known as the “Doctor of the Poor” and canonized by the Catholic Church , lived with his family in this castle for 10 years. He turned one of the wings of the palace into a clinic, where he treated the needy for free.
