Bell OH-58 Kiowa ( born Bell OH-58 Kiowa ) is an American lightweight multi-purpose helicopter developed by Bell Helicopter Textron based on the Bell 206 model.

History
From 1969 until 2016, it was widely used by the U.S. Army for reconnaissance and direct fire support of ground troops, and was used in most armed conflicts involving the United States in the second half of the 20th and early 21st centuries. During the Vietnam War, the United States lost about 45 OH-58A helicopters. [3] As a result of the invasion of Afghanistan and the Iraq war , at least 35 helicopters of this type were lost in battle. [four]
A significant amount was exported. In 1970, OH-58A were purchased and adopted in Canada [5] .

Options and Modifications
- OH-58A Kiowa - the first option, with a T63-A-700 engine rated at 317 hp. Helicopter weight - 1360 kg, top speed - 220 km / h (cruising - 190 km / h), fuel tank capacity - 280 liters , carrying capacity - 570 kg (4 soldiers in full combat gear), flight range - up to 490 km [6]
- OH-58B - 1976 export option for Austria
- OH-58C - 1978 model with an Allison T-63-A720 engine producing 420 hp, began to enter the army in 1979. The two-section windshield has been replaced by a four-section flat glass with acrylic content, a new dashboard, friend / foe identification system AN / APX-100, and radar warning device AN / APR-390 have been installed. In the armed version, a XM-134 machine gun with 2,000 rounds, a 40 mm XM-129 automatic grenade launcher with an ammunition load of 150 grenades, or a unit with seven 70 mm unguided missiles could be installed from the port side [6]

- OH-58F - helicopters that have undergone modernization under the program CASUP , as a result, the total weight of the machine was reduced and the optoelectronic system AN / AAS-53 was installed. - USA - 200 OH-58D, 44 OH-58A and 3 OH-58C, as of 2016 [13] In May 2014, the US Army and the US National Guard began phased decommissioning and decommissioning of all OH-58 modifications. The last flight of this type of helicopter was on September 19, 2017 [14] .

In 2016, Croatia purchased from the United States 16 OH-58D helicopters from the number decommissioned by the army [19] .
In addition, helicopters of this type are in service in Saudi Arabia and Spain [7] .
In popular culture
OH-58 appears in the movie Firebirds. You can fly on Kiow in the simulators Operation Flashpoint, Gunship 2000, Jane's Longbow 2, Enemy Engaged mod EECH 1.16
In Season 9 of the Walking Dead series, unknown people evacuate Jadis / Anne along with wounded Rick Grimes on OH-58.
