Born in a family of Moscow intellectuals (maternal grandfather - artist, illustrator and children's poet, corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Arts Alexei Mikhailovich Laptev ). He graduated from the special boarding school with an additional study of the Chinese language, studied at the History Department of the Moscow Regional Pedagogical Institute, but after the conflict with the dean, he was expelled from the last year.
He wrote poetry from childhood; from the beginning of the 1980s he visited Moscow literary associations and studios, including the Cypress Casket . Since 1989 began to print; published in the magazines "Youth" , "New World" , "Friendship of Peoples" , in various almanacs, in the newspaper "Humanitarian Fund" . In 1992, together with Andrei Polyakov and Igor Sid, he created the Moscow-Crimean literary group “Peninsula”. He died from a perforated ulcer , a few months after the release of his first book, “The Roots of Fire”.
After the death of M. Laptev, his poems were included in the anthologies Stanzas of the Century , Samizdat of the Century , Russian Poems of 1950-2000, continue to be published in paper and online publications, and since 2006 regularly appear on the specially created page of the Live Journal mihail_laptev ".

- In November 2008, an evening in memory of Mikhail Laptev was held in the Moscow club UGI Street. Among the participants of the event were Nikolai Zvyagintsev , Maria Maximova , Danila Davydov , Igor Sid , Danil Fayzov , Ekaterina Days .
- In April 2012, the presentation of the posthumous book by Mikhail Laptev, "Heavy Blind Bird," was held at the Moscow club "Street OGI", as part of UNESCO World Poetry Day.

One of the most anticipated publications of the current literary year: a collection of the poet who died early (1960-1994), in the archive of which remained, as stated in the preface to the publication, “many thousands of poems” (the only lifetime book published by Ruslan Elinin several months before his death Laptev). The "Heavy Blind Bird", which opens the series "Zoosophy", is a kind of superselected - as the preface says again - "with a clear metarealistic component." Flipping through this small book of Laptev, I feel both joy and bitterness. It’s sad that for almost two decades the Russian reader was deprived of this exquisite pleasure, implicated in the recognition of the tragedy of the world and its harmonious system. But I want to believe that Laptev’s verses, like precious wine (the words of Marina Tsvetaeva were applied more than once to this poet), kept in the basement of oblivion, finally came their turn - and they will come out into the light of God like Persephone.
