Coat of Arms
The modern coat of arms of Odessa is a silver river anchor with four paws in an scarlet field. The shield on the coat of arms is located in a golden cartouche and crowned with a golden city crown, under which the outline of the five-pointed Star of the Hero City is depicted. Approved on June 29, 1999 .
The city received the coat of arms with the image of an anchor cat in the imperial period. At that time, a double-headed eagle was depicted in the upper half of the shield. The first coat of arms of Odessa was approved on April 22, 1798: "In the upper golden part of the shield there is an emerging state eagle, in the lower scarlet part is a silver anchor." Since the coat of arms of Odessa was approved under Paul I, the Russian eagle in the upper half of the shield was depicted as a “Pavlovian type” with a Maltese cross on its chest.
Flag
The city flag is a rectangular cloth with a simplified emblem in the center, vertically divided into three parts - red, white and yellow. Approved on June 29 , 1999 .
Anthem
The official anthem of the city of Odessa is “Song of Odessa” from the operetta “ White Acacia ” (Music - I. O. Dunaevsky , lyrics - V. Z. Mass and M. A. Chervinsky ) [1] [2] . A fragment of this particular melody is played by the chimes on the building of the city administration [3] . The draft city charter, submitted for public discussion on June 14, 2011, proposed Leonid Utesov 's song “ By the Black Sea ” as an anthem of Odessa [4] .
When I sing about wide open spaces
About the sea calling to foreign lands
About the gentle sea, about happiness and sorrow,
I sing about you, my Odessa.
I see everywhere your clear dawns, Odessa.
Your sky and sea are everywhere with me, Odessa.
And in my heart you are everywhere with me
Odessa, my hometown!
When I sing about love without limit
About people who know how to believe and wait,
On bunches of fragrant white acacia,
I hasten to give you this song ...
I see everywhere your clear dawns, Odessa.
Your sky and sea are everywhere with me, Odessa.
And in my heart you are everywhere with me
Odessa, my hometown!
