The Right Livelihood Award is the Right Livelihood Award Foundation , established in 1980 by journalist Jakob von Jukskull. It is awarded annually, usually on December 9 , “for work on practical and exemplary solutions to the most acute problems of our time”.
An international jury awards prizes in areas such as environmental protection, human rights, health, and education. The amount shared between the laureates (usually four) is 3 million Swedish kronor (about $ 350 thousand).
