He was a professor at the University of Strasbourg . Together with Eduard Reuss published the Beiträge zu den theologischen Wissenschaften (Jena, 1847 - 1855 ) and the complete works of Calvin .
Content
Biography
In 1837, a private assistant professor at a Protestant seminary in Strasbourg , where he also studied. In 1840 he became a doctor of theology at the faculty of the University of Strasbourg . He became an assistant professor in 1857 and in 1864 received the New Testament department at the seminary. Then he taught at the University of Kaiser Wilhelm until he received Emeritus status in 1885. From 1881 to 1886 he was a member of the Protestant Consistory in the church of the Augsburg denomination of Alsace and Lorraine .
Work
He was a close associate of Eduard Reuss , who was his teacher in high school. Together with Eduard Reuss and Johann Wilhelm Baum he was responsible for the first full edition of the works of Jean Calvin , published in the Corpus Reformatorum . His other publications were mainly devoted to church history topics.
