Biography
Friedman was born in Budapest , Hungary, in 1949 into a Jewish Holocaust- surviving family. In 1949, the Friedman family moved to Austria , and a few years later - to the United States . There, George Friedman received a degree in political science from New York City College and a government degree from Cornell University .
In 1974 he began teaching political science at a private college in Pennsylvania .
The beginning of his geopolitical career, Friedman, like most of his young colleagues, devoted to the problem of Soviet-American relations . In the 1980s, Friedman wrote several scientific papers on the world military balance and nuclear parity . In 1994, George Friedman founded the Center for Geopolitical Studies at Louisiana State University, which deals with strategic forecasting. In 1996, Friedman created the Stretfor Private Intelligence Agency.
Friedman's childhood left an imprint on his political orientation. He considers himself a conservative Republican . His political course is characterized primarily by anti-Sovietism and anti-communism .
