Santa Maria delle Grazie ( Italian: Chiesa e Convento Domenicano di Santa Maria delle Grazie ) is the main church of the Dominican monastery in the western part of Milan . In the refectory of this temple is one of the most famous frescoes in the world - The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci .

It was built since 1469 according to the laws of late Gothicism under the leadership of Guiniforte Solari . In 1490, Lodoviko Sforza planned to place the tomb of the ducal house of Sforza here and entrusted the completion of the church to the master of Renaissance education (it is believed that he was Bramante ).
On August 15, 1943 , Anglo-American aircraft bombed the refectory, but Leonardo’s fresco was not miraculously affected. In 1980, the entire monastery complex was declared a World Heritage Site - the first in Italy .
