Geography
The territory of Sochi extends from the Magri district of the resort city of Sochi (southeast of the mouth of the Shepsi River) to the state border with the Republic of Abkhazia along the Psou River and covers a total area of ββ3502 kmΒ² (within the city limits of Sochi - 250 kmΒ²). Extreme points of the territory of Sochi: western (seashore near the village of Magri ) - 39 Β° 09β²00 β³ in. d., eastern ( Kardyvach Uzlovaya peak) - 40 Β° 39β²47 β³ in. d., northern ( Mount Kashina - 44 Β° 07β²17 β³ N, southern (shore of the sea of Imereti Bay ) - 43 Β° 23β²08 β³ N
The length of the municipality is the resort city of Sochi - 105 km. However, in order to drive the entire length of Sochi along a winding mountain road, it is necessary to overcome a significantly greater distance (about 140 km; thanks to the construction of new bridges and tunnels, the road is significantly reduced). The territory of the municipality is located along the coast, in places expanding into mountain valleys up to the Main Caucasus Range at a distance of 40 to 60 km. Of the total area of ββthe city, only 250 kmΒ² is under construction . By the area [7] , subordinate to the administration of the city of Sochi (head of administration A.N. Pakhomov ) [8] , Sochi is 1.5 times larger (3502 kmΒ² versus 2511 sq. Km) of Moscow (within the new borders of 2012 ), but has a much smaller population (for comparison: 524,023 and 12,615,279).
It borders on the Tuapse , Absheron and Mostovsky districts of the Krasnodar Territory , the Maykop District of the Republic of Adygea and the Republic of Abkhazia .
History
The territory of the municipality of the resort city of Sochi and the corresponding administrative-territorial unit (the city ββof regional subordination of Sochi) in the form in which it exists now took shape on February 10, 1961, when the territory of the abolished Adler and Lazarevsky rural areas of the Krasnodar Territory was included in the Sochi line , and in the city of Sochi, Adler , Lazarevsky , Khostinsky and Central districts were formed.
In 2005, as a result of the reform of local self-government in the territory of the city of Sochi with subordinate municipalities of the city administration, a municipal entity was formed in the resort city of Sochi with the status of a city ββdistrict .
