Biography

He studied at the College of St. Magdalen at Oxford , then at the graduate school of the Jagiellonian University , where he studied the Soviet-Polish war . From 1971 he taught Polish history at the University of London . In 1981, his book “The Playground ” (God Play) was published on the history of Poland, and in 1984, the book Heart of Europe (the Heart of Europe) on the role of Polish history in its present.

Some historians blamed Davis, who received Polish citizenship in 2014, for “polonofilstvo” when describing the Polish-German, Polish-Russian and Polish-Jewish conflicts. He was particularly sharply criticized by Jewish historians Lucy Davidovich and Abraham Blumberg. Presumably, this was one of the reasons why Davis in 1986 was denied a permanent professorship at Stanford University . Davis sued for breach of contract, but the court decided that he had no jurisdiction to resolve academic disputes.

In the 1990s, Davis wrote two large books “ Europe ” (1996) - a general description of the history of Europe, in which Davis tried to give equal attention to all parts of Europe, in particular the Slavic countries. In 1999, the book “ The Isles ” about the history of the British Isles was published.

European Academy (2013) is marked.
