The end of the era of glam metal: Twisted Sister disintegrated
Nirvana group is founded - the era of grunge has begun
- The Composers' Hall of Fame included Bob Marill , Carol Beyer Sager , Paul McCartney , Sam Cook , John Lennon , Jerry Goffin , Cynthia Weil, and Barry Mann .
- January 3 - Aretha Franklin became the first woman whose name was entered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame .
- February 6 - American singer , actor and ex-husband Cher , Sonny Bono, has put forward his candidacy for the post of mayor of the city of Palm Springs , California .
- February 7 - Premiere of the pseudo-documentary television film The Return of Bruno . The musical program tells the story of a fictional character - a singer with a dubious reputation Bruno Radolini ( Bruce Willis ). Many famous musicians and show businessmen in a jokingly ironic manner talk in an interview about how he allegedly influenced their life and work, among them: Phil Collins , Michael J. - British electronic duo Autechre formed
- Norwegian death metal band Black Death has been renamed Darkthrone .
- As a solo project by Stephen Wilson , the progressive group Porcupine Tree appears.
- A Swedish death metal band Hypocrisy has been created , the lead singer of which is Massa Broberg .
- Blue System group formed
