Granodiorite

Granodiorite rock sample

Granodiorite is a magmatic plutonic rock of acid composition , of a normal alkalinity series from the family of granodiorites. It is intermediate in composition between granite and diorite .

The mineral composition is quartz (15-25 vol.%), Plagioclase (40-50 vol.%), Alkaline feldspars (10-25 vol.%), Biotite, hornblende, pyroxenes, hornblende and other components (up to 15 vol. %). The density of the rock is 2700-2900 kg / m³ .

The average chemical composition of SiO 2 is 63-68%, TiO 2 0.2-1%, Al 2 O 3 12-17%, Fe 2 O 3 0.5-3%, FeO 0.5-4.5%, MgO 0.5-3.5%, CaO 3-6%, Na 2 O 2.5-4%, K 2 O 1.5-4% [1] .

Application

It is used in construction as a finishing stone. Rosetta stone was carved from granodiorite.
