Life and creativity
The real name of the vazopitse is not preserved in history He received his “official” name by the name of the potter Andokid , who left his signature on five vessels, painted by an unnamed vapistam. With the exception of the three “ bowls with eyes” (so called for the image of eyes on the back), all the vases of the Andokid vazopistz work that have been preserved are shaped like an Amphora . He is credited with the first attempts of red-painted ceramics. In addition, he experimented with painting on a white background .
Seven of the works attributed to the Andokidu vazoputsyu - six amphoras and one bowl - are bilingual , that is, are painted simultaneously in two styles - black-figure and red-figure. Some scientists (for example, John D. Beazley) believe that the black-figure side of these vases was painted by the painter Lissippids .
Andokid wrote on mythological themes, mainly from the life of Hercules . The figures in his images are somewhat angular and motionless, but in the opinion of I. Wegartner “they are full of naive, joyful charm” . Characteristic features of Andokid's creativity are an economical approach to drawing the internal lines of images and excessive ornamentation of the written out clothes. Andokid has not exhausted all the possibilities of a new style of vazopisi, they were revealed only by vazopistytsy circle vazopistitsa Efroniy , received in art history the name " vazopistyts-pioneers ".
