Baktaloranthaza ( Hung. Baktalórántháza ) is a city in the Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg region in the Northern Alföld region in eastern Hungary .

Geography
The city covers an area of 35.25 km² and, according to the 2002 census, its population is 4,295 people.
History
Bactaloranthaz was founded at the end of the Bronze Age . The first documentary mention of the city, then called Bakta (Bakta), dates back to 1271 , and in 1282 the first Catholic church was built there.
The construction of the castle by Count Laszlo Barkoczy belongs to the period of 1618 - 1638 . In the 1710s , Ferenc II Rakoczy was a frequent guest of the castle.
Religion
The Roman Catholic Church since the Middle Ages to the present time occupies a prominent place in the life of the city. The local catholic church was built in 1282. There is also a Greek Catholic church, built in 1842 in the late Baroque style .
At the beginning of the 17th century , the Presbyterian Church also appeared, between 1842 and 1844, a church bell was added to it.
Education
Geographically, Bactaloranthaz is located in the center of Mede. There is a high school for 1500 students, which makes the place an important educational city. This institution trains some students from Romania .

Bactaloranthaz has twin town relations with the city of Lancut , Poland . [one]
