History

The old street name is Forest or Street of Forest Yards. [2] Here was Novokonnaya Square, which until the 80s. XIX century called Wood, as the entire street of Forest Yards was selling fuel (wood and coal). Then on Wood Square began to trade horses, and she became known as Novokonnaya. It also housed the tower and the sheds of the Free Fire Fighting Society, the city water booth and the well of tradesman Malyavin. [3]

By the 900th anniversary of the adoption of Christianity in Russia in 1896-1918, the Vladimir Church was built on the street [2] [4] , which was often called a cathedral for its beauty. The author of the project was the architect A. A. Cui. The temple was destroyed according to the decision of the regional executive committee secretariat (May 10, 1931).

The street was renamed in honor of A. V. Koltsov in 1892, to the 50th anniversary of the poet’s death.

Attractions

There are three large enterprises on the street: Veropharm , the Voronezh Confectionery Factory and the Voronezh Distillery . In the center of the street, on the site of the former department store "Russia", is the 25-storey commercial and business center "Gallery Chizhov" - the tallest building in the city. At the end of the street is a residential building with a spire , reminiscent of Stalin's skyscrapers in Moscow .

Soviet writer Andrei Platonov indicated house number 2 on Koltsovskaya Street as a place of residence in his application form for the Congress of Proletarian Writers.

A monument to A. Koltsov has been moved to Koltsovsky Boulevard located on Sovetskaya Square [5] .
