Along the northern and eastern shores of the lake is the Miass – Chebarkul highway and the Ufa – Chelyabinsk railway; in addition, there are buildings on the northern shore that are part of the Miass urban development. The West Bank is a recreational zone: on the west bank there is a recreation center (formerly Ilmenskaya hostel) and a children's recreation camp "The Seagull". In the same place, between the base and the camp in 1973 - 1982 , 1987 , 1988 , 1991 - 2014 , the Ilmen Authors Song Festival was held. The east coast beyond the roads is not used in economic activities, as it is located on the territory of the Ilmensky reserve . The south coast is swampy.
The near-bottom areas are rich in silt and densely overgrown with aquatic vegetation ( char , pond , hornwort ).
The fauna of the shores of the reservoir is unique. Scientists from the Ilmensky Reserve found rare species of dragonflies here, and members of the local society of hunters and fishermen now and then fix the location of the river otter , which is listed in the Red Book of the region [2] .
The lake is spring-loaded by a dam; the runoff from the lake flows into the Miass River.
