Coal bed methane - methane contained in the sorbed (bound) state in the system of natural coal cracks. When drilling wells, the pressure at the wellhead becomes lower than the pressure in the formation, due to which there is an influx of the fluid contained in the cracks, and later on, methane. To produce coalbed methane, vertical wells are usually drilled to a depth significantly greater than the occurrence of aquifers. The most popular methods of stimulating production are hydraulic fracturing , drilling of horizontal wells and, in some cases, cavitation.
It has nothing to do with the degassing of coal mines .

Mining
Commercial mining of coalbed methane began in the United States in the early 1980s . In 2000, 40 billion cubic meters of coalbed methane were produced in the United States , which accounted for 7% of the country's total gas production.
As a result of coal mining in China, methane emissions into the atmosphere amount to 6-19 billion m³ per year. In 1996, the China United Coal Bed Methane Corporation (CUCBM) was established. By 2009, gas production increased to 700 million m³. In 2009, construction began on more than 3,600 boreholes for its production [2] .
Russia
In Russia , the program "Methane of Kuzbass" was adopted. Kuzbass can produce about 20 billion m³ of methane annually. The methane resources in Kuzbass are estimated at 13 trillion m³ [3] [4] . The Metan-Kuzbass program is implemented in three stages: prospecting, appraisal and exploration work ( 2008 - 2009 ), pilot operation and production growth (since 2010 ), and access to project commercial production. In 2010, the first field for methane gas production from coal seams of the Kuznetsk basin was launched on Taldinskaya Square [5] .
The Naryksko-Ostashkinskoye production project requires an investment of 5.3 billion rubles, 20 wells produced 20 million m³ of gas over 4 years. [6]
