The Munich Institute of Foreign Languages and Translators ( German: Sprachen & Dolmetscher Institut München ) was founded in 1952. The Institute trains interpreters and translators , as well as translators of foreign correspondence. The institute has a German as a Foreign branch and conducts language courses as part of its evening program. In the 2004-2005 academic year, about 150 teachers worked at the institute and about 1050 students studied.

Additional qualifications
After completing the main three-year training course, graduates of the Academy of Foreign Languages have the opportunity to receive additional qualifications in the following specialties:
- software localization ;
- specialist translator;
- simultaneous translator;
- subtitle creation.
Training
The duration of training for a translator of foreign correspondence is two years, for a professional interpreter or translator - three years. During training, the emphasis is not only on the development of the theory of translation , but also on obtaining the knowledge necessary for the translator in practical work. In addition to the language, students choose one (or several) of the four possible areas of specialization:
- equipment ;
- economics ;
- natural sciences ;
- right .
Higher School of Applied Languages
In 2007, the Munich Institute of Foreign Languages and Translators received the status of a higher educational institution . Within the framework of the institute, the Higher School of Applied Languages was created, which makes it possible to study in several new specialties. At the end of the Higher School, students receive a bachelor's or master's degree .
