She was born in Syria in Antioch , was notable for her extraordinary beauty, before turning to Christ she led a frivolous and licentious lifestyle, was a dancer and a harlot. She had the nickname Margarita , which means "Pearl."
Once the bishops of Syria gathered at the cathedral in Antioch . Among them was Bishop Noni of Iliopolis , who ran the Church of the Palestinian city of Iliopol ( Heliopolis ). The bishops asked Nonna, as the oldest, to preach to the people. Upon leaving the temple, the bishops saw a crowd of young people. Among them stood out the beauty and shamelessness of the clothes of Pelagius. According to the life, the bishops turned away, and the bishop. Nonn said:

Arriving at the hotel, Saint Nonn earnestly prayed for the salvation of Pelagia. The next Sunday, when Nonn performed the Divine Liturgy , Pelagia, drawn by mysterious power, first came to the temple. The worship and sermon of St. John shocked her so much that she was horrified by her sinful life. Having come to Nonna, she expressed a desire to be baptized , but was not sure whether the Lord would have mercy on her: " My sins are more numerous than the sand of the sea, and there will not be water in the sea to wash my nasty deeds ." Saint Nonn comforted her with the hope of God's mercy and baptized her.
Having become a Christian, Pelagia gathered her possessions and brought Nonna. Nonn ordered to distribute it to the poor, saying: " Let the poorly collected be cleverly spent ." A few days later, Pelagia, dressed in men's clothing, left the city. She came to Jerusalem and here she received monastic tonsure . She was mistaken for a young man. Having arranged her cell on the Mount of Olives , she shut herself up in it and began to lead a strict monastic life in repentance, fasting and prayer. Residents of the surrounding places considered her for the monk Pelagius, the eunuch . After several years, having achieved many spiritual gifts, the monk Pelagius died (approximately in 457 ). During the burial, it turned out that the deceased monk was a woman.
