Kuzmichev, Fedot Semenovich

Fedot Semenovich Kuzmichev (1799-1868?) - Russian writer. Author of at least 200 works [1] in verse and prose.

Son of a serf. He took part in the battle of Borodino at the age of 13 years (as part of the Moscow militia), as well as in foreign campaigns of 1813-1814 (in Germany and France).

Returning to Russia was the courtyard of Princess A. M. Golitsyna. After receiving the free (in 1830 or 1831), ascribing to the bourgeois class, he remained for a long time to serve her. He lived in Moscow and Moscow region.

From 1824 he began to write. From the beginning of the 1830s he began to publish actively, and independently published and sold his works.

The encyclopedic dictionary of Brockhaus and Efron characterizes F. S. Kuzmichev as a “semi-literate self-taught” writer of “cheap popular books”. Under the "cheap popular books" refers to the publication of books for the masses and children with pictures ( splints ). According to the writers of "high calm", he "wrote ineptly and illiterately, provoked Belinsky's ridicule." However, the encyclopaedists note that the author was popular: “I knew my audience [he] was able to please, and some of his works were reprinted many times”.

Fedot Kuzmichev is known as the first author of the alphabet with the "easiest learning to read" method, where the warehouse method of reading was proposed (a simplified form of syllables of two or three phonemes ). Later, this method was developed and based on Leo Tolstoy in his ABC .
