Sudnitsyn, Ivan Ivanovich

I. I. Sudnitsyn graduated from the biological and soil faculty of Moscow State University in 1955, in 1962 he defended his thesis “Patterns of moisture movement in soils”, in 1978 - a doctoral dissertation “Patterns of soil moisture movement and its consumption by plants”.

In 1955-1964 he worked at the Forest Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR , in 1964-1968 - at the Institute of Applied Geophysics , from 1968 to the present - at the Faculty of Soil Science (until 1973 - the Faculty of Biology and Soil) of Moscow State University.

His main research interests are environmental hydrophysics of soils: studying the movement of moisture in the system “ soil - plants - atmosphere ”. Sudnitsyn was the founder of this area of ​​research, which made a significant contribution to the development of soil physics. He created a universal theory of the movement of water in the soil, revealed patterns of absorption of soil moisture by plants. The dependences of a number of physiological parameters of plants, the intensity of the processes of metabolism of soil microorganisms and the structure of the soil microbial community on the potential of soil moisture are found . The modes of soil moisture potential in soils of different types were studied. To determine the thermodynamic properties of water in the soil, Sudnitsyn developed new instruments and methods, marked by 10 copyright certificates .

At the Faculty of Soil Science, Sudnitsyn created training courses on modeling soil-physical processes, gives a lecture course "Environmental Hydrophysics of Soils" for students of the Department of Physics and Land Reclamation. He was awarded the Prizes of the Ministry of Higher Education of the USSR (1980) and them. M.V. Lomonosov. Since 1995, he is a professor at the International University of Nature, Society and Man "Dubna" , where he conducts a course in soil science that he created.

Sudnitsyn is one of the leaders of the “ Step into the Future ” scientific-social program for youth and schoolchildren, launched in 1998, coordinating the activities of more than a hundred universities and research centers. In 2005, for work on the creation and implementation of the program, Sudnitsyn was awarded the Presidential Prize in the field of education.

Sudnitsyn is a member of the jury of the National Competition for Young Scientists of the European Union .

Sudnitsyn is interested in genealogy and restored a history of its kind until the sixteenth century. He discovered, in particular, the presence of common ancestors with D. I. Mendeleev . Studying the genealogy and creative heritage of the great chemist, Sudnitsyn confirmed that the appearance of geniuses is not accidental and is largely determined by genes, and also led to his rethinking of the philosophy of Russian cosmism . Sudnitsyn repeatedly published the results of his thoughts and genealogical research both in the form of monographs (see, for example, The Birth of Biogeochemistry, 2002), and in periodicals.

By 2007, Sudnitsyn published more than 200 scientific papers, including monographs:

Sudnitsyn is the author of 3 textbooks, including Environmental Soil Hydrophysics (1995).
