Content
About the breed
Included in the first group according to the classification of the International Film Festival , has a working class at all exhibitions. Use - shepherd shepherd . Height in males is 62–68 cm, in females 56–64 cm. A very long coat, in structure resembling a goat. All solid colors are allowed, with the exception of white, chocolate, mahogany. Wool of fawn color with a black pattern forming a “cloak”. The color is too light .. Earlier it was customary to stop the ears to give them a standing shape, but as a result of the adoption of animal protection laws in recent years, stopping the ears in most EU countries is prohibited. A distinctive feature of all varieties of French shepherds is the double dewclaws on their hind legs.
Origin of breed
The breed is mentioned in written sources from the XII century, the modern look took shape at the end of the XIX century, the first official breed standard was adopted in 1897. The modern standard is valid from January 2009. The main stock is in Western Europe; 150–200 individuals are exhibited at the main French Briard Exhibition (National d'Elevage), which takes place once a year. The current state of the breed is controlled by briar clubs existing in many countries. European requirements for breeding dogs - dysplasia index not lower than B or C (depending on the country). Dogs recommended for breeding have a prefix to the nickname "Sel" (" selected "). The breed is named after the small French region of Brie, but does not originate from it.
Briards in Russia
They were first brought to Russia in the late 1980s. The Briarclub of Russia was established in 1992. Every year, a national monobreed show is held with the invitation of a pedigree expert from Europe. Usually 30-60 briars are exhibited. Briards are a rare breed in the country, several litters are born per year. Ear stopping is allowed.
Character
They are distinguished by a cheerful and playful disposition. Easy to learn, but can be stubborn. Briards are successfully used in the following sports :
