History

In early 1770 , the Cossack, military foreman - Matvey Khizhnyak built a winter house, from which the Matveyevsky farms and later Sloboda Matveevka went.

In 1779, between the Gnezdka, Volchya and Kocherga rivers, a trench was created from the Lugansk settlement (formerly Matveyevka), thanks to which a city called Pavlograd was formed.

In 1784, Pavlograd received the status of a city and became the center of Yekaterinoslav governorate. The first coat of arms of the city was approved in 1811, the second coat of arms - 1979. The first settlers of the city were the Cossacks of the Samara and Kalmius palanca and the demobilized military.

After the end of the Crimean War of 1853 - 1856 Pavlograd hussars, out of a feeling of gratitude to the Lord that they survived, collected silver (each of Chervonets), on which the Intercession Cathedral was built. Today it is fully restored and is operational.

In 1925, the city became a district center, and in 1926 - a district center. Since 1939, Pavlograd is a separate administrative unit, a city of regional subordination.

Since 1931, an artillery range operated in Pavlograd, which before the Great Patriotic War turned into a large artillery range. Two large factories of the city worked for defense.
