About the album
Instead of releasing a “collection of the best”, the group decided to rewrite the songs in new arrangements using modern digital technologies and transfer their films to digital format. Ralph Hutter considers “The Mix” a kind of “live album”, since it was recorded by improvisation on prepared parts in the computer’s memory, just like the concerts of the group. Carl Bartos , who participated in the recording of the album, played four concerts with the group in 1990 in Italy. Wolfgang Fleur was replaced on stage by Fritz Hilpert, the band's sound engineer who was directly involved in digitizing the sound archive. By the time The Mix was released, Bartos had left the band.
Cover
The album cover depicts a robot model that was used in the video clip of Die Roboter the same year.
