Tesin ( German: Teschen , Polish. Cieszyn , Czech. Těšín ) is a historical city in Tesin Silesia , the capital of the Teszyn principality .
He lay on the Olsha River . On the right bank of the river was the historical center of the city, and on the left bank there was an industrial suburb and a railway.
Before the First World War, Tesin was part of Austria-Hungary (in Austrian Silesia ), after it was divided between the newly formed countries of Poland and Czechoslovakia . The part of the city that left Czechoslovakia on the left bank of the Olsha river was called Český Těšín , and the part of the city that left Poland on the right bank of the Olsha river was called Cieszyn .
In 1938 , after the Munich Agreement, Poland captured Cesky Tesin, renamed it Cieszyn Zachodni, and merged it with the Polish Cieszyn into one city. After the defeat of Poland in 1939, the whole city was incorporated into Germany .
In 1945 , Cesky Teshin was returned to Czechoslovakia (now part of the Czech Republic ), and Tseshin to Poland.
