“ Revenge of Marseille ” is a French-Italian film based on the novel “Joined” by Jose Giovanni [1] . The original name of the film: “Un nommé La Rocca” (≈ rus. Someone named La Rocca ).

Story
A member of the criminal group Roberto La Rocca ( Jean-Paul Belmondo ) learns about the troubles that happened to his friend Xavier Ade ( Pierre Vanek ), who is wanted by the police because of a false denunciation. Shortly before that, a partner of the owner of one casino was killed and an unknown person called the police, claiming that the killer was Ada. Suspicion of friends Xavier falls on the partner of the murdered - Villanova and they decide to collect evidence against him. To this end, Rokka meets the villanova's mistress, trying to force the truth from her. For his sake, she throws Villanova, who decides to kill an opponent. But Rocca is ahead, shooting him and takes control of the casino in his hands.
Meanwhile, Xavier is sentenced to ten years in prison. And soon, and Rokka falls into the same prison for the murder of several racketeers during gangster disassembly. Upon learning that Xavier is in the prison block for violating the prison regime, another prisoner mocks him, Roberto himself breaking the regime, gets into the punishment cell and deals with his friend’s abuser. When prisoners are asked to participate in the demining of the coast to reduce the period, Rocca and Xavier agree.
After his release, Roberto, Xavier, who lost his hand in demining, and his sister Genevieve ( Christina Kaufmann ) are considering the idea of buying a house and living together. To pay for the purchase, Xavier robs his former partner. This is worth the life of Genevieve, because of which Rocca, in love with her, leaves his friend.
Interesting Facts
- In the film, the action takes place in the post-war period, while the novel covers the period from the mid-1930s to the mid-1940s.
- In 1972, Jose Giovanni shot his own film version of his novel titled "Bringing Misfortune" ("La Scoumoune". In the Russian hire, the film was registered under the title " Clan of Marseille "). The main role was also played by Jean-Paul Belmondo.
- In both films, played and Michel Constantin. In The Revenge of Marseille, he played the role of the leader of a gang, during a shootout with which Roberto was wounded. In "Clan of Marseilles," he played Xavier.
