Family

John Clayton Mayer was born to Margaret and Richard Mayer on October 16, 1977 in Bridgeport , Connecticut . He is the middle child among his two brothers, Ben and Karl. His mother, Margaret, taught English, his father, Richard, was the principal of the school. On the paternal side, Mayer is a Jew. On maternal - Crimean Tatar from Feodosia. John grew up in the town of Fairfield, where his close friend was James Blake , the future star of tennis.

Career

At school he took violin and clarinet lessons. When John turned thirteen, his father rented a guitar for him, and Mayer began taking lessons from the local owner of the music store. A neighbor presented John with a Stevie Ray Won cassette, with which his love for blues began. The desire to play the guitar came to him after watching the movie "Back to the Future" , "when Michael J. Fox played" Johnny Be Goode ". I think - after that I decided on playing the guitar. "

Subsequently, John began to listen to The Police, by Jimi Hendrix , but most of all by Stevie Ray Vaughn , who became his idol and biggest inspiration in playing the guitar.

At age 16, John began performing in clubs. At an older age, he became a member of the group "Villanova Junction", along with Tim Procaccini, Joe Balesney and Rich Wolf, but did not stay there for long.

At age 19, John Mayer enrolled at Berklee College of Music in Boston. However, influenced by his classmate Clay Cook , a year later, John dropped out of school and moved with Cook to Atlanta, Georgia. There, they both formed the LoFi Masters band and performed at local clubs. Due to disagreements in the choice of musical style, Meyer left the group and began a solo career. John released his first album, entitled “Inside Wants Out,” in 1999, and a year later released his breakthrough disc, “Room for Squares,” with the smash hit “No Such Thing” (a text based on a conversation with mother).

In 2000, John signed a contract with Columbia Records and in 2001 released the second version of “Inside Wants Out” with the bonus track “3x5”.

In 2003, John won his first Grammy Award for "Best Male Pop Vocal" for "Your Body is a Wonderland." He also released his first live DVD that year, “Any Given Thursday.” In the summer of 2004, John participated in Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival , where he played along with the greatest guitarists of our time. He really became one of them.

John began to play mostly acoustic rock, but then switched to the blues ... Daughters, Wheel.

Has toured in North America, Asia and Europe for three full years. In early 2005, John won two Grammy Awards , ("Best Male Pop Vocal", and "Song of the Year" for "Daughters"), which caused tears of pride in the eyes of his fans.

Now John Mayer is one of the most respected guitarists of our time, both among beginners and among distinguished artists.

In 2013, released the album "Paradise Valley", highly praised by critics.
