Coat of arms of the coat of arms: Evgeni Aleksandrovich Malakha and Nikolai Nikitovich Starodubtsev . Approved by decision XXIII-14/13 of the city council on September 10, 1999 at the XIV session of the city council of the XXIII convocation.
The shield is crossed in an arcuate manner, which symbolizes the location of Volnovakha in one of the highest points of the Priazov Upland . The upper part of the shield is azure. The bottom of the shield is gold in color. The azure color symbolizes a clear sky, the grandeur and beauty of nature, the golden color symbolizes the natural wealth of the region.
At the top of the shield is a floating silver bird. The city itself from a bird's eye shape resembles a flying bird, which was the reason for the choice of this non-heraldic figure .
A narrow wavy belt of azure color is depicted in the lower part of the shield. The belt is saddled with three silver fountains that extend beyond the top of the belt. The colors of the fountains are variable with the colors of the belt. Fountains are associated with the legend of the origin of the city. According to legend, the city was founded at the source of the river, where there were a lot of keys and it seemed that the water was worried. Hence the name of the city - "Wave".
The shield is crowned with a golden three-toothed city crown , which means that the city is a district center (the district center of Volnovakha district of Donetsk region ).
The shield is framed by two stalks of cereal, made of natural flowers. The stems symbolize that agriculture is the main branch of the city’s economy. The stems are entwined with azure ribbon. At the bottom of the ribbon in gold letters is written "Wave".
Initially, the Volnovakha emblem, like other emblems of the Donetsk region, used a French shield , typical of all cities of the Russian Empire of the 19th century, but then, according to the requirements of the Ukrainian Heraldic Society, the shield was changed to Spanish .
The colors of the coat of arms and the belt with fountains are repeated on the flag of Volnovakha.
