Gameplay
From the very beginning, the player controls Nero. He moves through a relatively open game world - he can go further in the story and return to previous locations. The main tasks of the player: performing small tasks and destroying opponents. In the first case, it all comes down to finding objects and solving small puzzles that open up something new to the player and / or simply allow you to move on. The battle with monsters occurs through combo chains with cold weapons and firearms, as well as using the individual abilities of different characters.
The player can also develop a character. For completed missions, the player receives the Red Spheres, as well as Proud Souls ( English Proud Souls ). Now it’s on them that the player buys new techniques, abilities and improvements for the character, while Spheres apply only to items. In addition to techniques, each character has the ability to turn into a demon ( Eng. Devil Trigger ). The ability gradually restores health, makes the character more persistent and strong, and also strengthens some techniques.
The game has two game characters, between which there are some differences.
Nero
The new hero in the series is Nero. His main weapons are the sword “The Scarlet Queen” ( English Red Queen ) and the double-barreled revolver “Blue Rose” ( English Blue Rose ). He has a lover - Kyrie and her brother Creed. The sword has a peculiarity in the form of a three-stage EX-charge, with the help of which the attacks of the sword are amplified, wasting at the same time one charge; if 2 or 3 charges are used, then the character uses a modified reinforced form of reception. The main feature of the character is his demonic hand - “Devil Bringer” . With its help, it is possible to conduct special receptions against various enemies and bosses, attract them to yourself or attract yourself to them. When using the devilish guise, the ghostly soul of Nelo Angelo appears behind Nero in a devilish guise with the Yamato sword in his hands, repeating the attacks of Nero himself.
Dante
Around the middle of the game, the player is given the opportunity to play for Dante . The character game is almost identical to Devil May Cry 3 , but there are a few changes. Now the player is available four (later opens the fifth) fighting styles at once, between which the player has the ability to switch directly during the battle. Styles do not need to be developed by killing monsters - the player can buy a new level for any style. Now Dante has the ability to carry all the weapons found in the game with him. When using the devilish guise, Dante's techniques are amplified, and weak monsters cannot stun him when hit.
Story
The game takes place in the city of Fortune ( Eng. Fortune ), which is led by the Order of the Sword, worshiping the Dark Knight Sparda and protecting the city from demons.
The events of the game begin with the fact that during morning prayer, Dante bursts into the temple, which kills His Holiness, the leader of the Order, as well as most of the knights. A new hero, Nero, manages to stop the killer. After the attack, a massive demon attack on the city begins. While the other knights are trying to confront them, Nero follows in the footsteps of Dante to kill him. He goes to the snow-capped mountains, to the castle of the Order, inside which he finds a secret laboratory. Meanwhile, Sanctus, His Holiness, is “awakening”, having gained new strength after the resurrection.
In the laboratory, Nero encounters Agnus, an underground scholar of the Order. At first, the creations of Agnus manage to defeat Nero. However, a demon wakes up inside the hero, which allows him not only to survive, but also to discover new abilities thanks to the Yamato sword. From the castle, Nero goes to the headquarters of the Order through the forests of Fortune. At this time, Sanctus is having a meeting. Hearing what Agnus said, Sanctus orders Credo to find Nero and bring him to him. Gloria takes over the search for Dante.
Meanwhile, Nero crosses the forest and heads to the main building of the Order. On the way to the palace, Nero collides with the Creed. To Nero’s questions about what really happens, the Creed “responds” with an aggressive attack. Seeing the power of Nero, the Creed assumes its demonic form, but this does not save him, and he suffers a crushing defeat. Suddenly, Kyrie appears, who sees Nero beating the Credo and notices Nero's demonic hand. In addition, Agnus takes her hostage to manipulate Nero. Nero runs after them, but the creations of Agnus carry Kyrie from the palace.
Nero continues his journey, leaving deep into the palace. In the chambers of Sanctus, he again encounters Dante, who needs a Yamato sword. Nero enters battle with him, but loses. Despite this, Dante allows Nero to take the sword. After that, the hero gets to the statue of the Savior, at the top of which is Sanctus holding Kyrie. Nero attacks Sanctus and almost defeats him, but he uses the Savior to defeat Nero and imprison him inside the deity statue. The creed is trying to rescue Nero, but gets hit by Yamato in the stomach. The Savior absorbs Nero and his energy. The creed dies in the arms of Dante, before dying asking him to rescue Kyrie and Nero. The order receives Yamato, with the help of which it is finally possible to release and subjugate the demonic hordes.
While Nero is imprisoned, Dante enters the matter. Since the Savior is in the city itself, the son of Sparda has to make the return journey: from the main palace, through the forest and snow-capped mountains, to Fortuna. At the same time, Dante destroys all the bosses whom Nero only drove back to the underworld, while destroying the gates from which they emerge. Last thing, he takes back Yamato and destroys the last, real gate. Now his goal is the Savior. Dante enters into battle with him. He manages to weaken him and send Yamato right inside the creature to rescue Nero. The latter is freed and sent for Sanctus.
While Dante is fighting the Savior, Nero has to overcome the cunning system inside the creature in order to reach Sanctus. Using Yamato, Nero defeats His Holiness and frees Kyrie. Despite this, Sanctus merges with the Savior to try and kill Nero. To completely destroy Sanctus, Nero uses the full power of his demonic hand. After that, Dante leaves, leaving Nero with the Yamato sword.
After the final credits a small humorous scene follows, from which we see that Dante’s “efforts” did not pay off (his part of the revenue was extremely scarce). Meanwhile, the office receives a call with a new order.
