Biography
From his godfather, the last Prince of Conde , thanks to the intrigues of his mistress Baroness Fesher inherited the vast land and wealth of Conde, including the family estate ( chateau ) of Chantilly .
On November 25, 1844, he married Princess Mary Carolina Augusta of Bourbon-Sicily . In 1845 he had his first son, Louis Philippe ( French Louis Philippe d'Orleans, Prince de Conde ), who at birth became the 10th Prince de Conde. But this prince died in 1866 twenty years of age. Two sons - Henri (born and died in 1847) and Francois Paul (born and died in 1852), died shortly after birth, the youngest son - François Louis (1854-1872) also did not live to adulthood.
He participated in the conquest of Algeria , and after the overthrow of his father in 1848, he became one of the leaders of the Orleans, fighting for the restoration of the monarchy in France . Engaged in political and military activities, was in exile. Napoleon III considered his candidacy for the throne of Mexico in 1861 to compensate the Orleans for their lost throne and because of their proximity to the British royal house.
In 1884, he donated the Chantilly castle to the state with his art collection, including The Madonna of Orleans , The Magnificent Theology of the Duke of Berry , and many other masterpieces (now the Conde Museum ). Impressed by his generosity, the republican government overturned the decree expelling the duke, and he returned to France.
