Mladogrammatiki ( it. Junggrammatiker ) - a school in German linguistics of the XIX century. [1] , first proposed to apply the natural science principles of verification of scientific knowledge to linguistics. As a concrete example, they proposed the hypothesis of regular phonetic correspondences. Comparative-historical linguistics , in particular, Indo-European studies, played a central role in the works of young grammar majors.
The largest representatives are Karl Brugman and Herman Ostgof (authors of the “Young Manifesters Manifesto”), Berthold Delbrück , August Leskin , Herman Paul , Wilhelm Meyer-Lübke , in Russia - Philip Fortunatov and his school.
The biggest critics of young grammar were George Kurtsius , Nikolai Krushevsky , Hugo Schuhardt (the founder of the School of Words and Things opposing young music ), Graziadio Isaiah Ascoli , Johannes Schmidt , Ferdinand de Saussure .
Mladogrammatism was the dominant trend in linguistics of the late XIX - 1st third of the XX century; later in the West, it was replaced by other currents, while in the USSR the ideas of youngogrammatism (“historicism in linguistics”) played a positive role in the fight against the “new teaching about language” by N. Ya. Marr . From the standpoint of myogrammatism, an article was written by JV Stalin (in fact, co-authored with A. S. Chikobava [2] ) “ Marxism and Questions of Linguistics ”.
