Apataki ( French Apataki ) - an atoll in the Tuamotu archipelago ( French Polynesia ). It is located 19 km southeast of the Atoll of Arutua and 370 km northeast of the island of Tahiti .

Geography
The land area of Apataki is about 20 km². Length - 36 km, width - 25 km. In the northwestern and southwestern parts of the atoll, there are narrow passages connecting the lagoon with ocean waters.
History
The island was discovered on May 21, 1722 by the Dutch traveler Jacob Roggeven , who named the island Avonstrond ( Dutch. Avondstond ). Another historical name of the atoll is Gagemeister ( in honor of the Russian navigator of the same name ). In 1774, an English traveler, James Cook, visited the island.
Population
In 2012, the population of Apataki was 350 people. The main settlement of the island is the village of Niutahi , located on the southwest coast of Apataki.
Administrative Division
Administratively part of the commune of Arutua.
Economics
Near the settlement of Niutahi, there is a runway . The main occupation of local residents is agriculture ( copra production) and fishing (growing pearls in the lagoon, fishing).
