Enravota

Enravota (Boyan, Warrior) is the eldest son of Khan Omurtag . After the death of Omurtag, the third khan was his third minor son, Malamir , whose regent was the boy-kafhan Isbul. The most detailed mention of the eldest son of Omurtag is contained in the Ohrid Archbishop of the 11th century Theophylact .

According to Feofilakt, the Greek priest Kinam was in the Bulgarian dungeon; he was put there on the orders of Khan Omurtag, after Kinam refused to participate in the pagan rite . After the death of his father, at the request of Enravot, Malamir released a priest who persuaded Boyan to be baptized. Upon learning of Boyan’s baptism, Malamir demanded that his older brother renounce the Byzantine faith. To which he replied:

... I’m all bent on the idic idols and veneration of Christ, the true God and no one else can be distinguished from love by the love of Christ ...

After that, Malamir ordered the execution of his brother. After the baptism of Bulgaria, Boyan-Enravot was canonized, revered as the first Bulgarian martyr . The memory takes place on March 28 (according to the Julian calendar ).

The version described by Theophylact is in doubt among modern historians. Most likely, Enravota participated in a conspiracy against his brother or his regent, Boyf-Kafhan Isbul.
