An improved version of the game called Code: Veronica X ( Japanese 完全 版 Kanzenbang , Full) was released for Dreamcast (2001, only in Japan. For all other countries, the game came out as Code: Veronica ), PlayStation 2 (2001) and Nintendo GameCube (2003). This version contained various updates, new screensavers. An HD reissue was released on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in 2011.
Gameplay
Code: Veronica was the first in the main series of games Resident Evil , in which the backgrounds became three-dimensional. The camera did not show the player from all sides, but moved at a certain angle. Two types of weapons have aiming from the character’s eyes, and after passing through the main scenario, the (Battle Game) mode opens, where the camera is from the first person.
The gameplay is not much different from Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (which was developed simultaneously with Code: Veronica ); there are chips like exploding barrels of fuel and a 180-degree turn, but there is no way to evade enemies. There are additional pouches to increase the number of carried items, it is possible to upgrade weapons and new types of weapons appear, for example, a crossbow with the ability to fire exploding arrows. In this part of the game, there is a unique opportunity to simultaneously shoot with two hands at two different targets. The game has the opportunity to continue the game if the player was killed, as well as to use the grass or spray immediately if his equipment was full.
There are two main characters in Code: Veronica : Claire Redfield and her brother Chris. The player does not have the opportunity to start the game with any character: the first part of the game the player goes for Claire, and then for Chris. All items left by Claire in the storage box are available to Chris. Also, a small location to go, managing Steve Burnside.
As in the previous parts of Resident Evil , after passing the main scenario, the player becomes available hidden game modes. This is a Battle Game mode in which the player has to clear a set of locations from beginning to end, and in the end will fight with the boss, the set of locations depends on the character selected. You can control Chris or Claire in regular and secret costumes, and as you progress through - Steve and Wesker, opened using the story game and the passage of the Battle Game mode. In this case, Steve can be opened by putting a gold luger in the inventory in the plot game (for Chris), and to open Wesker, you need to go through the Battle Game mode for Chris.
Story
The introductory video shows how Claire Redfield infiltrates the Umbrella Corporation building in Paris. From the very first shots, it becomes clear that Claire has seriously changed since the notorious events that put an end to the city of Raccoon City. Now Claire resembles a real super agent, but just in spite of everything, she is captured and taken to a military base on the island of Rockfort, lost in the ocean.
December 17, 1998. Soon after arrival, a prison block guard named Rodrigo Juan Raval opens the door to Claire’s cell and says that it’s free because there was a massive T-virus infection on the island and now she’s unlikely to survive anyway. Most of the military managed to leave the island, and now there are no surviving and not infected people on the island.
Trying to find a way to get out of the island, Claire teams up with another former prisoner - a young man named Steve Burnside. The main opponent for them is the aristocrat Alfred Ashford, the rightful owner of the Umbrella base in Antarctica and Rockfort. This not quite normal person will bring Claire a lot of trouble. Another villain, known from previous parts of Resident Evil - Albert Wesker, guilty of spreading the T-virus on the island, set out to get a sample of the unique T-Veronica virus, which was created by the twin sister of Alfred Ashford Alexy.
Claire and Steve find a plane and, having overcome a lot of difficulties, fly away. However, Alfred remotely activates the autopilot , and the plane heads to the shores of the Antarctic , to another corporation base. Alfred himself goes there too. At the new base in the cryocapsule, his twin sister Alexia is contained, whose body the T-Veronica virus was introduced 15 years ago.
The battle at the semi-frozen polar station seriously injures Alfred, and the heroes slip away on the all-terrain vehicle. Alfred observes his sister's awakening - this is the last thing he saw in his life. Alexia immediately demonstrates her power and superiority: the all-terrain vehicle is overtaken by giant tentacles and this does not allow the heroes to escape.
For a while, events are again being transferred to Rockfort Island. After receiving a request from Claire for help through Leon, Chris arrives on the island. From the guard of Rawal, he learns that his sister has long left the island. Chris is dating Wesker, who had long wanted to end Chris. Wesker has a number of superpowers - superhuman speed (he can move so fast that only the flickering of his body is visible to the human eye), super-smartness (he easily dodges bullets), which are given to him by the presence of a virus in his body, but here, laughing, on the screen powerful Alexia appears - and Wesker prefers to run away.
Chris is the last to arrive at the Antarctic base, and there he finally finds Claire, who was captured by Alexia. After her release, she begins the search for the missing Steve. When she finds him, it turns out that a sad experiment was conducted on him - Alexia introduced T-Veronica to him. Steve turns into a scary monster and tries to kill Claire. At this time, the tentacles of Alexia again approach Claire, but Steve, defending Claire, dies, killed by Alexia.
Another drama takes place at the same time in another place where Chris and Wesker meet with Alexia. Wesker prefers to run away, leaving Chris to fight against Alexia. Having won a temporary victory, Chris activates a self-destruction system so that all doors open and Claire is freed from the prison cell in which Steve was held. Then he finally destroys Alexia.
Chris runs to the emergency elevator and sees the flashing shadow of Wesker, who took possession of the model of T-Veronica. Claire is waiting for her brother on the plane while he is fighting Wesker. Wesker defeats Chris, but then they are separated by an explosion, and Wesker leaves, postponing the showdown with Chris for another time. Chris and Claire leave the base before the explosion. Chris vows to destroy the Umbrella Corporation once and for all.
