History and Architecture
Throughout the history of the city, the avenue was built with buildings of various architectural styles. Since the 18th century, the avenue retained the central alley (it was rebuilt many times and planned for liquidation, but it has survived to this day).
It was formed during the construction of the dam of the city pond in 1723. Passing through the dam, the street connected the western and eastern half of the city (Church and Trade side). The street was built up gradually, along the Moscow and Shartash roads.
The first stone building (and the oldest surviving one) is the General Directorate of Mining Plants (Mining Chancellery, 1737 - middle of the 19th century, classicism), for other buildings built on the 1905 square, see the article 1905 Square . In the years 1820-1821. - A pharmacy of the Yekaterinburg Mining Department ( classicism ) was built. In the years 1860-1866 the building of the former district court was built on the embankment of the City Pond (architect A.I. Paduchev). In 1912, the Opera and Ballet Theater was built ( Art Nouveau , architect K. T. Babykin , project of architect V. Semenov, reconstructed by December 26, 1982 )
In the 1920s and 1930s, many buildings of the pre-revolutionary building were demolished, and in their place a number of buildings were built in the constructivism style: the “House of Communications” (now the Post Office, designed by architect K. I. Solomonov, 1934 ), “The House of Printing” (printing house "Ural Worker", 1930 , architect G. A. Golubev), the building of the Regional Executive Committee (architect S. V. Zakharov, 1934), the "Builders Club" (architect M. Ya. Kornfeld, 1930), residential complexes "1- th House of the City Council "(1928)," 4th House of the City Council "(architect S. V. Dombrovsky , 1929-1931)," Town of Chekists "(architects Antonov , Sokolov , Tumbasov , 1929-1936) and Gospromural (architects E.N. Korotkov , G.P. Valenkov , A. B. Gorshkov 1931-1938). Later - the building of the Headquarters of the Ural Military District with a residential complex (architect A.M. Dukelsky, 1935-1940). At the end of the avenue, UPI buildings ( 1939 ) were built. In 1929-1934 Throughout the avenue, a tram line was laid.
In the post-war years, a block from Vostochnaya Street (1953-1960), including the Uralgipromez Institute and the Ural Polytechnic , was built up in the style of “ Soviet neoclassicism ”. In 1954, [1] the residential “ House of Artists ” was commissioned. The building of the Ural Economic Council was built (architect A.P. Tuff , 1957 , later Ural State University ). On July 18, 1959, the Eternal Flame was lit at the mass grave in Kommunarov Square. September 5, 1962 Lenin Street became the avenue. The building of the theater of musical comedy and the cinema “Sovkino” ( 1962 , architect P.D. Demintsev ) was reconstructed . In 1961 , the last quarters with old wooden buildings near the Opera House were demolished and two residential buildings were built (1962–63, architect P. D. Demintsev and F. S. Taxis , No. 53 for 147 apartments, with the Sport store ” And No. 48 for 244 apartments, with a Central grocery store) [1] . in 1962-1973 the dam of the City Pond was reconstructed; the Historical Square was created. In 1963-1967 there was a residential house and hotel "Yubileinaya" (with the store "Ocean"). With two exceptions, the avenue has retained its appearance from this time to the present day.
In February 1979, an underground passage was opened at the intersection with ul. Eastern.
In 1987 , a multi-story new building of the OTsM plant was built. In 1995, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Victory, a monument to G.K. Zhukov (sculptor K.G. Grunberg, architect G.I.
