Muhammad-Kuli Sultan ( Magmetkul ) (d. December 1618 ) - Siberian prince, regimental governor, son of Ata Kuli, nephew of Kuchum Khan.
The best governor of Khan Kuchum. When Kuchum was organizing the internal affairs, Magmetkul made successful attacks against Perm, attacking the Ostyaks and Vogulichs subordinate to her (see the written letter from Stroganov on May 30, 1574 , printed by Miller in the Description of the Siberian Kingdom). In peacetime, he commanded the Khan's Lancers, the protection of the Khan. He first encountered Yermak at Babasan in July 1582 , sent forward by Kuchum for reconnaissance rather than decisive battle. Underestimating the enemy, it was relatively easily defeated by the Cossacks. The first battle ended with the defeat and flight of Magmetkul with the remnants of the detachment.
The second time he fought with the Cossacks during their landing at the Cape Chuvashev at the mouth of Tobol , in October 1582 , and was wounded there, but a few days later he appeared with a small detachment and killed all the Cossacks (about 30 people) who went fishing Abalatsky lake.
The Cossacks avenged, having killed his entire detachment on the Vagay River (53 versts from Tobolsk ) on February 23, 1583 , and Magmetkul himself was captured. In 1585 he was brought to Moscow , where Fyodor Ivanovich received him “with great honor” and granted him estates.
At first he was flown to the Bezhetsky Upper . In 1586/87, his wife left for him, and in 1595 his mother. It is known that at the solemn reception of the Austrian envoy by Tsar Fedor Ivanovich in 1597, he sat on the right hand of the king along with Araslan-Alei Kaybulov, Tsarevich of Kyrgyzstan (Kazakhstan) Uraz-Magmet Ondanovich, Prince Fedor Mstislavsky. (one)
He had a patrimony in the village of Zaozerskaya, Yaroslavl district . He was granted a local salary of 2,000 families and a cash salary of 200 rubles. He enjoyed great respect both among the Russian nobility, and among the Tatar, who stood in the service of Tsar Fyodor Ivanovich.
He participated in the Russian-Swedish war of 1590-1595 and the campaign against the Crimean Tatars in 1598.
