Biography
Born in an aristocratic Georgian-Russian family in St. Petersburg . In 1918 , the Magalashvili family emigrated from Russia to Finland , then moved to Paris , where Nikita studied with Isidore Philip.
The wife of the pianist Irena was the daughter of Jozsef Szigeti . The couple had a daughter, Wanda. In 1939 the couple fled to Switzerland, where Magalov lived until his death. In 1956 received Swiss citizenship.
He died in Vevey .
Performance
Nikita Magalov was a faithful performer of Chopin, for the first time in history who recorded all the piano works of the composer. 13CD, Philips Classics. He also performed works by Mozart , Beethoven , Schumann , Liszt , Mendelssohn , Stravinsky . He played in the ensemble with Clara Haskil and Jozsef Sigheti.
Teaching activities
Since 1949 he taught in Switzerland, Italy, France. Among his students are Marta Argerich , Maria Tipo , Emil Naumov , Vincent Kock , Valery Sigalevich and others.
