In 1846, while on a business trip to Derpt to clarify the statistical description of this city, he published a new work, “Ueber Besteuerung der Gastwirtschaft als Gewerbe” (Derpt, 1846 ), devoted to problems of public finance [1] . For this study, Krzhivitsky received his doctorate [3] .

After the business trip, he returned to Petersburg, where he continued his career in the Ministry of Internal Affairs as an official on special assignments and a member of various commissions. In 1858, Krzhivitsky was transferred to the Second Branch of the Imperial Chancellery. [one]

In 1861 he met the Marquis Alexander Velepolsky , and later supported his reformist ideas [2] .
