In 1919 , on the initiative of A. V. Lunacharsky , the highway was named after enthusiasts in honor of revolutionaries and political prisoners, who were sent by exile by the tsarist government and followed this road there [1] .
In the 19th century and in Soviet times, large industrial enterprises were established along the highway: Neftegaz (1931), Electrode Plant (1933), Radiopribor (1934), Projector (1935), Moskabel with their workers settlements (for example, Dangaurovka , Vladimir settlement). By the 1960s, many Muscovites had forgotten the meaning of renaming, the name was perceived as the Soviet “anthem to optimism”.
The Izmaylovsky Forest Park adjoins a large part of the highway.
The section of the highway from Novogireevskaya Street to Svobodny Prospect , which passes between the Izmailovsky Forest Park from the north and the Terletsky Forest Park from the south, was known as the “Death Valley” - due to the large number of accidents with serious consequences (mainly - frontal collisions ). Since 2014, on most of the highway (including the aforementioned “Death Valley”), counter-flows are separated by bump stops.
The Moscow Ring Road begins its countdown kilometers south of the intersection from Entuziastov Highway and ends at the intersection with the highway from the north (clockwise) [2] .
On the highway of Enthusiasts metro station "Highway Enthusiasts" , "Aviamotornaya" . Not far from the beginning of the highway, the Ploshchad Ilyicha and Rimskaya metro stations are located.
Trams move along the highway along designated paths on the north side of the Rogozhskaya gates to 3rd Vladimirskaya Street. Trolley buses run in both directions from the Rogozhskaya Gate to Novogireevskaya Street (earlier, until the cancellation of the trolleybus route No. 68, to Svobodny Prospect). For the free passage of public transport, dedicated lanes are arranged for route vehicles, except for the section from Vladimirsky overpass to 1st Vladimirskaya street in the direction to the east.

Highway Reconstruction
Until 2010, the Enthusiasts Highway within the Moscow Ring Road had 3 lanes in each direction from the Rogozhskaya Gate to 3rd Vladimirskaya Street and from Svobodny Prospect to Stalevarov Street, 2 lanes in each direction from 3rd Vladimirskaya Street to Svobodny Prospect, and 4 lanes on each side from Stalevarov street to MKAD. In addition, at each intersection with perpendicular streets there were pedestrian crossings that allow people with disabilities to easily cross the roadway. The rapid growth of motorization, as well as the exceptional importance of the highway as the major transport artery of Moscow connecting the Perovo, Veshnyaki, Novogireevo and Ivanovskoye districts with the Sokolinaya Gora, Lefortovo districts and the center of Moscow, led to traffic jams both on weekdays and on weekends .
The commissioning of the Third Ring Road and the Lefortovo tunnel that closed this ring did not improve the transport situation. In 2008, a reverse runway from Stalevarov Street to 1st Vladimirskaya Street was introduced, but in 2009 it was abolished, returning the old markup, since the desired effect was not achieved.
Since 2009, reconstruction began in connection with the construction of the Fourth Ring Road . On February 17, 2011, in an interview with Ekho Moskvy radio station, Sergei Sobyanin called the construction of the fourth transport ring an inefficient project and said that construction was stopped. After that, in March 2011, the Moscow authorities announced that they were planning to change the draft of the Fourth Ring Road and complete the main line in a “truncated version”. But despite this, in 2013 it is planned to fully open the first part of the highway - from Entuziastov Highway to Izmailovsky Highway. It was also planned to build an understudy of Entuziastov Highway (one-way traffic, 2 lanes) on the even side of the street. Plekhanov to the street. Novogireevskaya, however, the project was implemented only until 1st Vladimirskaya Street.
Section of Enthusiasts Highway from 1st Vladimirskaya Str. to Novogireevskaya Street. it was planned to make lightless, in connection with which in 2012, construction began on elevated and underground pedestrian crossings near Novogireevskaya, 3rd Vladimirskaya streets, 2nd Vladimirskaya streets. At the 1st Vladimirskaya it was planned to lengthen the existing transition [12] . As a result, the pedestrian accessibility of the tram line and the Izmailovo Forest Park has deteriorated, leading to systematic violation of traffic rules by pedestrians, as The existing phases of traffic lights make it possible to cross the Enthusiasts Highway almost at the top at an intersection with 2nd and 3rd Vladimirskaya streets instead of using elevated and underground pedestrian crossings.
In 2013, it was planned to build the first high-speed tram line in the city for the 3rd Vladimirskaya-Balashikha section [13] , but the project was postponed. According to the new plans, construction will start no earlier than 2019, since the project of the tram line is interconnected with the project of building a highway overpass on the main road of Enthusiasts highway at the intersection with Bolshoy Kupavensky passage and Svobodny prospect with the elimination of circular traffic.
As part of the construction of the Fourth Ring Road , a tram line was pulled at the metro station and the MCC Highway Enthusiasts, which slowed down the movement of trams due to oversized curves, forcing carmen to slow down dramatically. At the same time, a tram stop appeared directly at the descent into the underground tunnel, connected with the vestibule of the MCC station.
As part of the reconstruction of Enthusiasts Highway, the following work was completed:
- Built overhead pedestrian crossings:
- near the former Serp and Molot plant between the Kursk railway and the Third Transport Ring;
- near the projected passage number 137 (near the metro station "Aviamotornaya"), with elevators;
- at the 2nd Vladimirskaya street, with elevators;
- at the Moscow Clinical Research Center (Enthusiasts Highway, 86), with elevators;
- at Terletsky passage, with elevators;
- The following underground pedestrian crossings were built:
- at Shepelyugin street (near house number 8, at the Dushinskaya street public transport stop);
- at Prospect Budenny;
- at the 3rd Vladimirskaya street;
- near Novogireevskaya street;
- The following pedestrian crossings were reconstructed:
- underground near the metro station "Aviamotornaya";
- underground near the metro station "Highway Enthusiasts";
- underground near the 1st Vladimirskaya street (built ramps instead of one of the stairs).
- Ground crossings through highways have been eliminated;
- The junction of the Enthusiasts Highway and the North-Eastern Chord (near the metro station Highway Enthusiasts) was built:
- The tram tracks are moved under the overpass of the nearest directional congress;
- The overpass of the Moscow Ring Railway was reconstructed;
- Trestles of the North-Eastern Chord were built, and the exit from them to Budennogo Avenue (part of the former North Rokada);
- Under the overpasses and the ICRD, an underground pedestrian crossing was built.
- The main roadway is extended to 4 lanes in each direction from 1st Vladimirskaya street to MKAD, up to 4 lanes to the center and 3 lanes to the region from Plekhanov Street to 1st Vladimirskaya street, to 3 lanes to the center and 4 lanes to the region from metro "Highway Enthusiasts" to the street Plekhanov.
- Highway doublers commissioned:
- towards the area:
- from the overpass of the CIT to the end of the junction with the temporary storage area;
- from Plekhanov Street to 1st Vladimirskaya Street;
- towards the center:
- from the Moscow Ring Road to the Bolshoi Kupavensky passage;
- from house number 72 to 1st Vladimirskaya street;
- towards the area:
- A roundabout at the intersection with Bolshoy Kupavensky Passage and Svobodny Prospect was introduced;
- Barrier fences (“bumpers”) were built along the dividing strip almost along the entire highway.
- Dedicated lanes have been introduced for route transport along the entire length of the highway, with the exception of the understudy section, from the Vladimir overpass to 1st Vladimirskaya Street;
- The highway doubler from the junction with the temporary storage area to Budyonny Avenue in both directions;
- Underground pedestrian crossing near Burakova street;
- Replaced and / or transportable tram tracks from the Main Alley to Burakova Street.
Further reconstruction plans are generally in the framework of previous projects, but due to limited financial resources, the timing and extent of their implementation are not yet clear.
Entering the Northeast Chord and the exit from it to Budyonny Avenue worsened the traffic situation on the highway towards the center, as it provoked trips from Lyubertsy and Nekrasovka to the center via Entuziastov Highway with a U-turn on Sokolina Gora 3rd Street there is no exit on the Enthusiasts highway towards the center).
