History

Langenhagen Airport was established in 1945 on the basis of a military airfield, as the military barracks in its northern part remind of. In 1950, preparatory work began for the reorganization of the airport into civilian and as a backup to the existing airport Hannover-Fahrenwald (now does not exist), since the latter was located within the city and could no longer expand. In July 1951, the Civil Aviation Authority issued a permit for construction company Flughafen Baugeselschaft ( German Flughafen Baugesellschaft ) to carry out construction work, and construction began on November 28 of that year. After 5 months, on April 26, 1952, the object was commissioned from the runway with a length of 1,680 m (southern strip).

In 1956, the first tourist flights to Mallorca and the Costa Brava started.

On October 7, 1956, Lufthansa launched a flight on the Hamburg - Hannover - Frankfurt route, on which Douglas DC-3 aircraft were used.

In 1957, four flight organizers already had 130 charter flights .
