History
On February 6, 1936, Kiyoshi Ithimura established Riken Kankoshi Co., Ltd. as a company for the production of photosensitive paper for photographing and photocopying, as well as optical systems .
The founder of the company did not have any connections or privileges in society, but despite this, thanks to his intelligence, perseverance and unique worldview, he achieved a lot, created a company that has become one of the most stable and successful in the world. In 1950, the company began production of a mirror camera with two lenses - a copy of the German Rolleiflex .
The first copier, the Ricoh Ricopy 101, was introduced in 1955 . The technology and functionality used by this device was very different from today's Ricoh technology. For the first copier used special (light-sensitive) paper. In 1971, the first copy machine Ricoh PPC900 was introduced using plain paper and designed on the basis of electrophotographic printing technology.
In 1973, Ricoh introduced the world's first intercontinental fax machine Ricoh RiFax 600S , which was six times faster than the fastest machines of the time. This unit became the ancestor of the new standard for faxing (which the CCITT committee set up at that time) and the first fax in the world of Group 3. Since then, Ricoh has made a significant contribution to improving the fax technology, constantly developing new approaches, improving quality and reducing transmission time.
Ricoh tirelessly continued to develop new technologies. The equipment became faster, more reliable, more functional. One of the new technologies was color printing, which led to the appearance in the early 1980s of the first analog color copier Ricoh Color 5000 “Bird of Paradise”. Around the same time, Ricoh took up the development of digital technology. The result was the appearance in 1987 of the first digital copier Ricoh Imagio 320 .
In Europe and North America, the Ricoh brand appeared on the market in 1981 , and it has been known on the Russian market since the days of the Soviet Union .
