Description

Irpen has a length of 162 km and flows through the city of Irpen . The catchment area is 3,340 km² [1] . It takes the source of the village Yarovich Zhytomyr region [2] . The height of the source is more than 195.6 m above sea level [2] . Two reservoirs were made on the river: Lesnoye and Kornino, located near the urban-type settlement of Kornina , also located on the river [2] . It ends near the village of Kozarovichi , where the pumps of its water rise to the level of the Kiev reservoir on the Dnieper River . The height of the mouth is 97 m above sea level [3] .

The average salinity of the Irpen River water is: spring flood - 295 mg / dm³; summer-autumn low flow period - 450 mg / dm³; winter low water - 459 mg / dm³ [4] .

The largest tributaries are the Krivyanka , Belka , Kalinovka , Veprik , Zherko , Svinariyka , Kudelya , Lyubka , Mostovaya , Nyvka , Rokach , Unava , Bucha .

On the Irpen River there are a large number of different gateways-regulators [5] , which are part of a network of drainage and humidification systems built in the late 60s of the twentieth century. Thanks to this solution, it was possible to turn the marshy floodplain into fertile lands [1] .

Historical Information

The lands along which Irpen flows are the center of Kievan Rus , and the chronicles mention this river more than once in connection with certain historical events.

One of them was the battle on the Irpen River in 1321 or 1324 , as a result of which Kiev and the neighboring lands fell into the dominion of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania .

Along the Irpen River in 1941, the Soviet army created the first line of defense of the city of Kiev from the German troops. [one]
