Biography
Louise Arbor's parents were the owners of a hotel chain. She grew up in Quebec . She defended her thesis in civil law at the University of Montreal. From 1974 to 1987 she was a professor of criminal law at the University of York in Toronto. In 1987, she was appointed judge, and in 1990 became a judge in the Supreme Court of Ontario 's largest Canadian province. Published a number of articles on human rights.
In 1995, she was the head of the Canadian Prison Conditions Investigation Commission. Since 1996, she has been the main prosecutor in the war crimes trial in the former Yugoslavia and the genocide in Rwanda. For the first time in history, she began the process of war crimes against the incumbent head of state (Slobodan Milosevic). On September 15, 1999, she served as a judge in the Supreme Court of Canada. From 2004 to 2008 she was the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
Louise Arbor is the mother of three children.
