Passover is a Khazar commander. Judging by the name - a Jew , probably from the Khazars . Head of the region adjacent to the Kerch Strait . He wore the title " Bulshitsy " , known in this region in earlier times, and supposedly deciphered as "head of the garrison" or "tax collector".
Around 939, the Byzantine- inspired invasion of the Russian army was repelled, led by a certain Helgu (Prince Oleg Moravsky ?) On the Khazar possessions in Crimea . In his absence, the Rus captured the city of Samkertz (Tmutarakan). Pesach did not find the Russian army there and attacked the Crimean possessions of Byzantium. He captured three cities and many villages, and then besieged Khersones . The besieged resorted to the construction of a dig through which they tried to attack the Khazars, but failed, having lost 90 people dead. The Khazars could not take the city, but they received their prisoners and the Rus who accompanied them. The latter were executed. After this, Passover continued the persecution of Helgu and fought with him for four months. He completely defeated him, seized all the loot he had stolen at Samkherts, and forced the prince to a military alliance against Byzantium (see the Russo-Byzantine War of 941–944 ).
Information about Passover is contained in the message of the so-called. The Cambridge anonym is the most valuable evidence of the Khazar army, which in more detailed Islamic sources is portrayed mainly as a mercenary.
The figure of Pesach is promoted by anti-Semitic historians and publicists as an illustration of theories about the “Jewish threat” [1] . His victory over the Russian squad without serious reasons is interpreted as the conquest of Kievan Rus by the Khazaria .
