The Potsdam City Palace ( German Potsdamer Stadtschloss ) is the winter residence of the electors and the kings of Brandenburg - Prussia (and later the German emperors ) in the center of Potsdam . Built in 1662–1669, the palace was thoroughly rebuilt in 1744–1752. in accordance with the baroque tastes of Frederick the Great (architect - George Wenceslas von Knobelsdorf ).

The palace was destroyed during the bombing of the city by the Allies on April 14, 1945 and demolished by order of the authorities of the GDR in 1959 (only the stables survived). In 1991, a cinema was built on the site of the palace, but the work was curtailed. In 2002, the Gate of Fortune was rebuilt. The full-scale reconstruction of the Potsdam Palace was completed in 2010-2014. Currently, the Brandenburg Landtag is sitting in the restored Potsdam Palace.
